Success with the kitchen!

It is starting to look like a home...

But first about the kitchen - it worked out: no more metal sheeting left! I made both of them twice .. but I really wanted counter tops without scratches or dents..
Just wondered whether there is a foil that looks as good as real metal.. for next time.
The sink is from Evi because she is the only one that has them with the real stainless steel look.
It seems she uses some sort of metal covered styrene...

In case you are wondering where the extractor hood is: the latest development here is Bora!
In my next real life kitchen I definitely want one like that...

And I finally could show off Minifanaberia's dishwasher and Ikea racks on the walls! Yeah!!
And all the other treasures I found at the various fairs. Pots of course from Yukio Kaway in Tokyo. Nearly ready to make the Spaghetti dinner....

I had to scrap the idea of having floor-length white curtains in the house 😢:
There was no space next to the TV area.
The advantage: I can now add indirect light on the ceiling.. still to come.
And I hope that Ingrid will help me with assembling a real working clock on the wall (Ingrid, did you get that?? 😍).

I planned to use two black industrial lightshades above the dining table. But with this rather colorful and bold painting it looked too much. So I made a much simpler lamp.
This is the original lamp from Prandina...

mirror inside..

It took me some time until I found a way to point the light upwards and get the reflection on the table: I used a mirror covered styrene and added a rim. .
First tried it with making a mould - but when I put the material in the oven the result made me laugh..

And: so pleased that my Provence house made it to the Frontpage of Miniaturas!
But why on earth did I give her that photo where the window hinge has become loose??? grr

Kitchen

Things are moving slower than planned - but then life has its priorities.
Mine is the business at the moment. I am looking forward to the weekends with nothing to do.. but winter is in sight. Darn, I will miss the daylight for doing my mini stuff!

But I would like to show you some progress which dates back a while already. The kitchen turned out to be a real beauty:
Love the knives I bought at the Kensington Fair from Pierluigi Pirovano!

Details...

Looking in from the outside

... and sneak preview of the lounge corner ...

as long as the kitchen is tidy is is not bad to look at from the sofa either...
I did the kitchen fronts with foamed PVC, front for oven and dishwasher comes from Elf (ha, Roni and I now found out how to make these tiny knobs though...), lighting is nano LED, glass on the back of the working surface and sink&tap from my own 3D models on Shapeways (Evelin Klotz has an even nicer sink though..).

Once the bulbs are in the soil and we switched to wintertime - I am sure I have more time for my hobby again :-)
Next up is to complete the lounge/dining corner with all the deco stuff that goes with it, too.
BTW: I could do with a mini sewing or knitting basket - if anyone knows where I could get this...

Working with plastic

Because the container is metal I noticed that I worked with plastic rather than wood! Curious, because I prefer wood. It is probably because I really want to maintain the industrial looks - very smooth and metallic.

The siding has arrived and it is wonderfully easy to work with. Now I finally know how thick the walls will be.
Decided that the 8 corners of each container with holes for the crane and all could only be done in 3D.

I needed to put on my thinking-hat because I did not want the windows to have outside frames. After three different and fiddly concepts I opted for L-shape ASA profiles for the frames in the wall openings. Wonderfully easy to spray paint as well - they do not even need a base coat.

The windows frames are a question of patience: cutting 3mm strips of 0.5mm polystyrol sheets, spraying them (all round - mind you - because otherwise some white is bound to show up..), and the glueing them ever so carefully to the perspex. Needless to say that I messed up one window really good...

And now I need to decide on the color of the siding - no mean task...
Let me know what you think. I will 'age' it later one though.

More plastic: my new under-counter sink model has arrived from Shapeways! But I am not happy because of the printing lines inside: not really possible to sand them. So, I need to find a better solution...

But the tap has turned out rather nice... if you need one, you can order it from my shop

Note the dishwasher brushes. If anyone has a better idea for bristles, please let me know!

Update July 30, 2015: a model railway builder friend brought me some NOCH synthetic grass, which he suggested as bristles for my scrubbing brush. This and a dab of super glue gel worked like a charm!!
